CONDENSED FUDGE

This particular fudge has a wonderful brown sugar taste.

I've got a REAL moneysaver here. The only thing is you have to make it BEFORE you need it to let it thicken. ( I have used it immediately when in an emergency!) You can always keep this on hand - it lasts quite a while when refrigerated:

SWEETENED CONDENSED MILK:

1 1/4 c. powdered milk

3/4 c. sugar

3 Tbsp. margarine

1/2 cup boiling water, poured over all, so margarine melts. Beat at high speed for 2 minutes. Refrigerate. This makes 1 1/2 cups or 12 oz.

CONDENSED FUDGE:

11 oz. sweetened condensed milk

2 cups packed brown sugar

1 cup white sugar

1/2 cup milk

3 Tbsp. butter or hard margarine

2 Tbsp. corn syrup

1 tsp. vanilla

Combine first six ingredients in 3 qt. saucepan. Heat on medium-low, stirring often as it comes to a boil. Boil, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking, until soft ball stage on candy thermometer or until a small spoonful dropped in cold water forms a soft ball. Remove from heat. Remove thermometer. Let stand 40 minutes. Add vanilla. Beat until it gets thick. Pour into greased 9 x 9 pan. Cool. Cuts into 36 pieces. Makes 2 lbs.
